Post by d***@hotmail.comPost by VSPost by d***@hotmail.comIs there any way we can write a script which prompts you for the
Original Computer Name and Username and then connects to that PC and
copies the Desktop, Favourites Folder and My Documents Folder and
copies it to a new PC (which obviously is also prompted for)?
If your are talking about a Domain with client PC's - that's what
Roaming profiles are for !
If you have XP Desktops then the 'Files and Settings Transfer Wizard'
might be useful -

Hi
Unfortunately we only have Windows 2000 PRO so this is not possible.
Can anyone else provide a script?
Thanks

Bounce me an e-mail at "rpuffd at gmail.com" and I will send you the one
I wrote. It is a bit of a monster in size way too big to post here.
Herei s a brief synopsis of what it does :
Migrates all these items for the user :
Favorites
My Documents
Cookies
The users Old desktop, put in a folder on the new desktop
so as not to mess it up with broken stuff. You can then drag
out what you want, and use the broken stuff as a reminder of
what to re-install
All relavant items in %UserProfile%\Application Data and
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data
Additonal folders that you select from the old system, supports
drive letters out to G: using an IE based file browser.
The desktop Wallpapter
The IE Start page
Network based printers
Network based shares
Microsoft Office Settings
Outlook Settings - a real time saver if the user has lots
of PST files set up in Outlook.
It supports even back to Windows98 if you can believe that.
It is for the most part IE based, but gives dialog to the user
via MS word. If MS Word is not prestent, it will use IE
instead.
I can be used in an Enterprise domain or stand alone on
a home network as well. Most items mentioned above
are optional based on settings chosen at the initial options
page. It is completely stand alone systems and requires
no additional components to run.
In my opinion, much better then the XP Files and Settings. The
XP tool requires an intermediary drop point, this one is lan to lan.
Also, IMO the XP tool in the default state migrates way more then
necessary or wanted.
I would be happy to share it wiith you if you like.
